Asks before recommending. A good agent starts with your doctors, hospitals, prescriptions and budget, not with a plan.
Knows your county. Plans and networks change from county to county. A local agent knows which doctors and hospitals each plan works with where you live.
No pressure. You never have to enroll. You can ask for time, take the information home and decide later.
Still there in February. Ask how they'll help after you enroll.
What an agent does after you enroll
Enrollment takes a day; using the plan takes all year. A local agent helps when a claim is denied, a doctor leaves the network or a drug is no longer covered. They also review your plan each fall, when benefits and premiums change, and tell you when you have a Special Enrollment Period because you moved or your plan left your area.
What it costs you
Nothing. The insurance company you enroll with pays the agent, and your premium is the same whether you enroll through an agent, on Medicare.gov or with the plan directly. An agent can only offer plans from the companies they work with; for information on all of your options, contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE.
Is your Medicare Advantage plan ending in 2027?
